We had the weekend off from competition. As a coach, I have enjoyed having the extra training days. It is hard to get good training days in when we are competing every weekend. I am sure the guys are anxious to get back on the competition mat, which is a good thing. We will compete in our first team tournament this Saturday at the Navy Classic. We will be tested.
Some of the guys chose to compete in an Open competition this weekend. We had 11 guys wrestle at the Wolf Pack Open. None of the 11 placed, although several won matches. I was pleased to see so many guys choose to go to the Open. It is a good sign for our future. I was bothered by the results I saw as I followed the tournament online. My hope is the guys will learn from the experience of competing. I do believe guys can learn at a faster pace when they can evaluate how they are doing in competitions. It was great to see all 11 guys training the morning after the competition. Being diligent in their training will pay dividends down the road.
This is a big week for us on the recruiting front as well. We are currently in our early signing period. We are hopeful to have some guys choose to be Patriots.
Our Mason Pinners Club is growing. I believe we have more members than last year. Now we just need a few more things.
1. We need guys to get pins. Currently we only have 3. I challenged the team to work hard to get more this coming weekend.
2. We need more people to join the club. The more people we can get on board the more successful the Mason Pinners Club will be.
We are also preparing to host a wrestling clinic to raise money to help cover the costs of some of our equipment we purchased for the team this season. We will be doing the clinic on Saturday, November 29. The clinic will feature our entire team. Thus, those that choose to attend will get lots of attention. The clinic will take place at the Field House. Registration at 2pm. Clinic 230pm-430pm. Observe Team Practice 430pm-530pm. Pre-registration cost is $20 or pay $30 at the door.
